Design considerations for photocatalytic structured packed bed reactors

Translucent photocatalytic reactor structures are interesting for the design of small and large scale reactors. Altering base element size structure impacts packing parameters. Decreasing increases available surface area which potential catalyst load per volume. However, a smaller number light scattering boundaries, resulting in higher energy loss. This work elaborates on influence absorption efficiency mass transfer limitations. The varied parameters size, intensity load. used this is borosilicate glass sphere with diameter 1 mm, 2 mm or 3 mm. To assess efficiency, two flux model was validated used. It shown that, same load, beads absorb less than beads. Furthermore, equal rates absorption, spheres behave equally while show lower bed activity. partly attributed to transport resistances towards catalytic distribution.
